Preserving Heritage, Inspiring Innovation: The Mishrashala Mission

For over five years, Mishrashala has been dedicated to the small-scale manufacture and restoration of traditional folk instruments that are slowly fading from public memory. Our mission is to bridge the gap between ancient traditions and modern education. By restoring the terminology, literature, and practical craftsmanship of these instruments, we ensure that our cultural identity remains vibrant for future generations. In alignment with the New Education Policy (NEP), we utilize these traditional tools as “educational toys” to simplify complex lessons at the primary level, making learning both intuitive and culturally rooted.

Through the Odia Lokabidya Parishad, we conduct rigorous research on folk culture, publishing international-standard journals and multi-lingual books—including Odia—to showcase our heritage to the world. Our commitment extends beyond preservation to environmental responsibility, as we actively recycle waste to create new, functional learning aids. Having already trained thousands of students and educators through workshops at schools, colleges, and universities, Mishrashala is now expanding its reach. We are excited to announce that we will soon launch advanced online courses, continuing our work to foster social awareness and professional skill development through the lens of Odia culture.

NEP Model Syllabus

It is a significant milestone for Mishrashala to be recognized within the National Education Policy (NEP) model syllabus, solidifying its role as a premier center for traditional knowledge and practical learning. Highlighting this academic prestige, a cohort of 40 postgraduate students from the esteemed Sailabala Women’s College, Cuttack, recently visited Mishrashala as a core component of their internship program.

This collaboration proved to be highly productive, fostering a deep engagement between classical methodology and modern research. Notably, two students distinguished themselves by submitting exceptional dissertations based on their findings at the facility. Their work exemplifies how the integration of Mishrashala’s resources into the NEP framework can inspire high-level academic scholarship and empower the next generation of female scholars in Odisha.

Extending this educational impact to younger generations, Mishrashala also organized a successful Summer Camp in May 2025, where three batches of students from six schools immersed themselves in the world of art and craft. These initiatives collectively highlight Mishrashala’s unique role in bridging the gap between higher academic scholarship and grassroots creative learning.
